LA: The First 48
Rush hour in the City of Angels
Welcome to LA, where patience is a sin and hesitation gets you killed. Here anything is for the taking - sex, money, status, fame. You can have it all if you’re bold enough. Opportunity is everywhere for those willing to take the risks. And the gutters offer a glimpse into the lives of those who aren’t; or those who roll the dice and come up short. It’s intoxicating, like a drug that gets into your system and changes you slowly, then all at once. It changes how you live; it changes how you want to live; it changes how you see life.
Only the strong survive here. The strong and the insane. To be both is a gift, here that makes you a genius. They say art is in the eye of the beholder but really I think it’s the eye of the artist that counts. With enough conviction one man can convince the world of his delusions. And what is art besides a shared delusion? An idea that is bold enough to dive into the world of Divinity. Of course this is entirely possible, but only because we believe it to be so. It is our own mind, our belief that holds the key to this world. When given a glimpse ourselves we too often turn away and reject it, leaving that world in the hands of the “artist”, the “guru”, the “expert”, or the “priest”. In the end they are human, as we are human. The only difference is our willingness and capacity to swim the waters of the unknowable. To trust the voice inside at the exclusion of all other voices. To face and follow the path of our own vison. In our society to have a vision makes one insane, to follow a vision makes one an outcast, and to manifest a vision makes one a genius. In this way, those at the top and the bottom of our society are really not so different, certainly not so different as they’d like to believe.
